Policies

Attendance:

As this is a blended course, much of the work will be done online and in collaboration with your colleagues. However we will have a number of face to face meetings in order to provide lab and presentation time for some of the more involved aspects of our curriculum.

Normal time and space rules do not always apply to online coursework. However, there are a number of best practices that can serve to guide our online behavior.

  • Check in daily to see what others have posted and to check for new materials. We will be discussing RSS and subscriptions in order to facilitate timely automatic notification processes.
  • Your presence is often felt in the form of your comments to blog postings or your replies to discussion posts. Sincere and thoughtful posts are considered and valued in the absence of face-to-face (F2F) communication.
  • Timing is everything. A true collaborative approach values the time of your colleagues. It is best to avoid waiting until the last minute to post comments, responses or your own reflective pieces to give time for conversation to develop.

These three guidelines will help to form the basis for assessing your virtual attendance grade.

Academic Integrity:

It is expected, as in all academic endeavours, that the work presented by the learner is their own original material and that the use of any work belonging to others is cited appropriately. For purposes of copyright, all materials found online are to be considered the intellectual property of their respective author(s). This includes not only text, but audio, video and other web-based media. Even derivative work is protected by copyright unless permission has been obtained either in writing or through the author's implementation of a Creative Commons license.
